Malta. Do we lack basic critical thinking skills?

‘ I love Joseph 😍’

I have had to hold back from commenting on what is currently happening because there are no words which can ever be horrendous enough to describe it.

Why have we allowed a person awarded ‘Person of the year‘ for crime and corruption to tour the islands to bid farewell? Why was he allowed to travel peacefully all the way to Dubai? We need to critically learn to discuss a situation without jumping each on each other, as if our life depended on it.

We are letting political figures hold onto powers that they do not deserve anymore. We are at a time where we are so used to this situation that we forgot how are these people elected, WE voted for them. Therefore how come it is us who is "praising them" when we hold such a power 🤦🏻‍♀️.

From a tender age we are not allowed to discuss politics in school, therefore this is the outcome, that we are left with. A generation that thinks that not " being into politics" is totally fine and cool. This contradicts the percentage of voters turnover in Malta, that is one of the highest in the EU. Does this mean that the majority of us are handing over an uneducated vote? "Jew għax dak għamilli pjaċir". Or in some cases where the total opposite happens, "jiena lejber sal-mewt" "Grazzi Joseph!".

ohhh the merchandise!

And it took the death of an investigative Journalist to get the rage wheel moving, as when the Panama papers were published by Daphne and Matthew the public was not outraged. (this was pointed out on the second podcast that the Tortoise published on Daphne Caruana Galizia and her life.) Although the public did not like her she still managed to open many eyes, thus the rise of a new evolution, where people are not afraid to take it to the streets to protest.

Such as this one, where there is a demand for the arrest of various Ministers. Although it has not happened it still is a step towards the right future for Malta. Maybe one day we will be so able to think critically in depth, that prospective Ministers will feel threatened by our skills.
